Aisha Yesufu has not withdrawn from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Senate race

There is a slight mix-up in the current political updates. Activist and politician Aisha Yesufu has not withdrawn from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Senate race.

Instead, she is actively and confidently charging ahead. She recently dominated political headlines by leaving the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to join the National Democratic Coalition (NDC), officially declaring her run for the FCT Senatorial seat ahead of the general elections.

A news report on her actual status and her recent high-profile declarations regarding the FCT race is detailed below:

NDC’s Aisha Yesufu Vows ‘No Walkover’ in FCT Senate Race, Dismisses Wike’s Influence

ABUJA — Prominent human rights activist and politician Aisha Yesufu has firmly dismissed rumors of a political retreat, declaring that she remains a frontline contender for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Senatorial seat under the banner of the National Democratic Coalition (NDC).

Speaking on a series of recent national television appearances, Yesufu cleared the air on her political trajectory, clarifying that her transition from the ADC to the newly realigned NDC is a strategic move designed to strengthen opposition unity and deliver effective representation for the residents of Abuja.

"I Am Not a Walkover"

Addressing speculations about her capacity to withstand the established political machineries in the nation's capital, Yesufu maintained that her candidacy is driven by the organic willpower of citizens who are fatigued by the status quo.

"I am not a walkover in this race," Yesufu stated confidently during an interview on Channels Television. "The people of the FCT are tired of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), and they want real representation, not political placeholders."

When questioned about how she intends to navigate the immense political influence of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, whose political structure heavily impacts Abuja's local landscape, Yesufu remained completely unbothered. She asserted that the electorate—not political godfathers—will decide the outcome of the poll.

"Wike won't be a factor in the FCT Senatorial poll," she argued. "I don't have him to contend with because the power ultimately belongs to the voters, and residents are looking for alternatives that prioritize accountability and public interest."

Legislative Blueprint

Rather than backing down, Yesufu has already begun pitching a concrete legislative agenda to the public. She has publicly outlined a blueprint featuring seven key bills she intends to sponsor immediately if elected to the Red Chamber. Her legislative priorities focus heavily on:

  • Electronic Transmission of Results: Institutionalizing full, mandatory electronic transmission for all tiers of elections to eliminate human manipulation.

  • FCT Administrative Reforms: Improving the mayoral and structural governance of the nation's capital to ensure indigenous residents and urban settlers alike get fair representation.

  • Public Accountability Metrics: Introducing stringent legal checks on budgetary allocations and governance transparency.

Political analysts suggest that Yesufu’s entry into the FCT Senate race under the NDC banner fundamentally alters the dynamics of the contest, transforming it from a predictable two-party affair into a highly competitive, issue-driven battleground. Rather than withdrawing, Yesufu's campaign appears to be rapidly gathering momentum among urban youths and civil society blocks.
