Beauty Supply Institute Concludes Investigations, Closes Operations

Investigations into Founder of Black-Owned Beauty Supply Institute Finally ConcludedAfter a tumultuous two-year investigation, Beauty Supply Institute has finally concluded its dealings with state attorney general offices. Founded by Devin Robinson in 2009, the company had been at the center of controversy since media coverage highlighted complaints from nearly a dozen individuals who had contracted services through the company.

Investigations Initiated
The investigations were sparked by media coverage in 2024, which brought attention to complaints from almost a dozen individuals. This led six state attorney general offices to conduct reviews of Beauty Supply Institute's operations. The inquiries examined financial records, service agreements, marketing materials, and client communications, with no findings of further action needed.

Conclusion of Investigations
The final review, conducted by the Maryland Attorney General's Office in March 2026, brought all attorney general inquiries to an end. The reviews were handled through administrative processes, with four closed without any action and one resolved through an Assurance of Voluntary Compliance (AVC) in Georgia. In Maryland, a cease-and-desist order was issued for one of their services.

Company's Response
Devin Robinson, the founder of Beauty Supply Institute, stated that his company cooperated fully with each state inquiry and respected the conclusions reached by each office. The company had provided services to entrepreneurs seeking to open retail beauty supply stores, establishing 228 locations across the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean, training over 3,000 students, and procuring over $5M in funding during its sixteen years of operation.

Discontinuation of Operations
With the conclusion of all investigations, Beauty Supply Institute has discontinued its operations. No further statements are planned from the company, bringing an end to a chapter marked by controversy and scrutiny.

The conclusion of investigations into Beauty Supply Institute marks a significant turning point for the company and its founder, Devin Robinson. As the company closes its doors, it leaves behind a legacy of providing services to entrepreneurs in the beauty supply industry. The investigation's outcome serves as a reminder that even successful businesses can face scrutiny and accountability when allegations arise.
